The Lichtfabriek in Haarlem is a striking industrial heritage site with a rich history. Originally constructed between 1896 and 1902, it served as the city’s municipal power station, supplying electricity to homes and businesses. With the transition to natural gas in the 1960s, the plant was gradually decommissioned. Fortunately, key architectural elements were preserved. Under the management of Haarlemmer Stroom BV, the Lichtfabriek has evolved into a dynamic hub for culture, business, and hospitality. Its industrial character and flexible layout make it a popular choice for both large-scale and intimate gatherings. With a capacity of up to 1,500 guests and nine distinctive spaces – including the impressive Turbine Hall and the atmospheric Oil House – the Lichtfabriek is a prime example of adaptive reuse. De Lichtfabriek in Haarlem is een markant industrieel erfgoed met een rijke geschiedenis. Oorspronkelijk gebouwd tussen 1896 en 1902, deed het complex dienst als de gemeentelijke elektriciteitscentrale van Haarlem en voorzag het woningen en bedrijven van stroom. Met de overgang naar aardgas in de jaren zestig werd de centrale geleidelijk buiten gebruik gesteld. Gelukkig zijn de belangrijkste architectonische elementen behouden gebleven. Sinds het begin van de jaren 2000 heeft de locatie een nieuwe bestemming gekregen als veelzijdige evenementenlocatie. Onder beheer van Haarlemmer Stroom BV is de Lichtfabriek uitgegroeid tot een bruisende ontmoetingsplek voor cultuur, zakelijke evenementen en horeca. Het industriële karakter en de flexibele indeling maken de locatie geschikt voor zowel grootschalige als kleinschalige bijeenkomsten. Met een capaciteit tot 1.500 gasten en negen karakteristieke ruimtes – waaronder de indrukwekkende Turbinehal en het sfeervolle Oliemagazijn – is de Lichtfabriek een prachtig voorbeeld van herbestemming van industrieel erfgoed. At the iconic Lichtfabriek in Haarlem, the Dutch security specialist DeltaSafe Groep installed a state-of-the-art fire detection system tailored to the building’s unique architecture and usage. The solution combines proven reliability with cutting-edge technology to ensure optimal safety without compromising the character of the space.
The core of the system is the Siemens Cerberus Pro fire alarm panel, known for its adaptability in complex environments. For evacuation, a Compact 400 type A system was implemented, providing clear and centralized alerting in case of emergencies. In critical areas such as the expansive Turbine Hall, aspirating smoke detection (Stratos Modulaser) was deployed. This technology samples air continuously to detect smoke particles at an early stage, making it ideal for large open spaces. This combination of conventional and aspirating detection ensures that the Lichtfabriek is thoroughly protected, while supporting its role as a high-traffic public venue.

De kern van de installatie wordt gevormd door de Siemens Cerberus Pro brandmeldcentrale, die bekendstaat om haar flexibiliteit in complexe omgevingen. Voor de ontruiming is een Compact 400 type A-ontruimingsinstallatie toegepast, die zorgt voor duidelijke en centraal aangestuurde alarmering in noodsituaties. In kritieke ruimtes, zoals de imposante Turbinehal, is gekozen voor aspiratierookdetectie met de Stratos Modulaser. Deze technologie bemonstert continu de lucht en detecteert rookdeeltjes al in een zeer vroeg stadium, waardoor zij uitermate geschikt is voor grote, open ruimtes. De combinatie van conventionele branddetectie en aspiratiedetectie zorgt ervoor dat de Lichtfabriek optimaal is beveiligd, terwijl de locatie haar functie als drukbezochte evenementen- en publiekslocatie probleemloos kan vervullen.
